Operating since 1995 our goal is - To prevent youth tobacco use through peer education, role modeling and support.
Butt Ugly combines a social issue drama created and performed by youth for youth with one-on-one peer mentoring to address the issues of youth tobacco use.
The script addresses the current issues of youth tobacco use. The presentation tours in the fall and early winter of each school year, targeting students as they enter middle school.
The Butt Ugly Program involves post-drama interaction between the high school aged actors and middle school students. Actors break off into small "buzz" groups with the audience members where they discuss the pressures and influences youth encounter regarding tobacco use. They discuss feelings youth have about their own, their friends and their families' tobacco use. The actors also share ideas and role play strategies about how to resist tobacco use.
